CASE STUDY

Tickvent Mobile App

My Role

UX Designer. I designed the Tickvent Mobile App from Idea to Conceptualisation.

Duration

4 Months.

Problem Statement

Students and Youths are busy with academics and work. They find it difficult to keep tabs on events around them, and concerts of their favourite artistes.

Project Goals

The design of a Mobile App to help users keep tabs on both paid and free events (all kind of events) around them, book tickets, and also make payments.

The Solution

Tickvent App is a Mobile App that allows users to see events (Tech, Concerts, Art Exhibitions, Conferences, etc) around them, book tickets, and make payments. Users can book more than one ticket, and also assign ticket grades to individual email addresses for concerts.

My Task

Conducting interviews, drafting personas and user journey, competitive audit, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability study, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

Solution Summary

Kick off

I conducted Qualitative User Research on the intended users and end users of the Tickvent Mobile App. I identified two key user groups: students and working-class youths. The user research validated and invalidated some of the assumptions I had before performing the research.
I asked myself some important questions like:

1

Do students and youths prefer going to musical concerts, or would they rather watch the replay?

2

For students and young people who prefer to go watch the concert live, how accessible is the ticket?

3

How do people keep track of events around them without forgetting the event date and details?

User Research Summary

Pain Points

1

Students and working-class Youths miss a lot of events because they are not usually informed before the day of the Events.

2

The payment channels for the tickets are not all that flexible, and users go back and forth.

Meet the Users

Starting the design

Paper Wireframes

I took my time to sketch and iterate on each screen of the design. Before I started sketching, I first identified the number of screens required and also ensured that the sketches addressed users’ pain points.

Digital Wireframes

In the first stage of converting the paper wireframes to digital wireframes, I made sure that the screens were intuitive enough for users because of the usability test. One of the pain points is that users do not have flexible payment options. I ensured that users are provided with 3 different payment options.

Low-fidelity Prototype

Using the designed digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The main goal is to have an interactive model that can be tested with users to get feedback and then iterate on the low-fidelity designs before creating the mock-ups.

Usability Testing

I conducted an unmoderated usability test with 5 Participants. I sent links to the prototype, the prompts, and a google form for the questions and System Usability Scale. I used a spreadsheet to document the findings from the usability test.

1

Users want to see both paid and free events around them.

2

Users want an easy way to book tickets.

3

Users want the booking process similar to that of the onboarding process.

4

Users want to assign email address to different ticket grades.

5

Users want more customization for the Payment process.

Design Iterations

Early designs allowed users to select their choice of music genre. After usability tests, users said it might not be necessary for that to be included in the onboarding process, and that it can be incorporated later.

Key Mockups

Hi-fidelity Prototype

The high-fidelity prototype presents a cleaner flow for the onboarding process, ticket booking, and payment process.

Accessibilty Considerations

1

I provided access to users with motor disabilities by adding the icons for navigating the available events instead of just swiping.

2

I used labelled icons to help make navigation easier.

Project Impact

The Tickvent Mobile App solved the pain points of users having difficulties keeping up with events around them, and also solved the problems of booking and payment.

Learnings

While designing the Tickvent Mobile App, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each iteration of the App’s designs.

Next Steps

1

Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.

2

Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
